What prevents your city/town from being the best place in the country to live?

I quite like this area, to be honest. It's city enough for me where there's some decent stores in the area when I need to buy things, but rural enough where it's not too much of a trek to find a nice place to walk around outside in the woods somewhere. I'm not really cut out for city living with people stacked on top of people. Too loud, too busy. I can visit big cities but I don't think I'd enjoy staying there.

My complaint would be that the area is in that fuzzy population zone where we're big enough to have national retailers come in for the generic stuff, but we're not big enough to really support specialty shops for people who are looking for different sorts of items. Case in point...we have one art supply store in the area and it's Michaels. To get more specialized items, you'd have to go to either Syracuse or Albany.
