As I mentioned last time, I went out to Rochetser with my friends this weekend to the IMAX theater (or as my parents GPS unit says the im-ex (im as in imperial) ) to see Beowulf in IMAX 3D.
The movie was decent in the sense that I don't regret the 2.5 hour trip out to see it. It's an entirely animated move with some really impressive animation. There were points where I forgot the movie was animated. A few rough spots here and there popped that belief, but overall it was excelent from the special effects front.
The pacing however, could have been better. There were a few points where it seemed to drag. And after some dinner conversation (we went out to dinner at Bugaboo Creek, or as the GPS likes to say it, Beegaboo Creek) I can't help but wonder if the entire movie was made just so that they could create a lifelike, totally naked (minus the naughty bits, PG-13 and all) 3d model of Angelina Jolie. The character she plays, by the way, seemed to have the best animations. Hmmm... Anyway, you need to get past a whole lot of not entirely fully clothed men to get to that point in the movie so, be prepared!
Anyway, if I were to see the movie in anything but IMAX 3D, I'd probably be disappointed. If you don't have an IMAX hanging around and they're showing it in 3D near you that's a decent substitute. I definitely wouldn't go see it without the 3d-ness though. It would lose some of it's epic-ness. Overall, the movie was fun and if you're looking for something to do I'd recommend it, but it's definitely not a must see in my book.
